Here are some basic tips to follow when hiring a local contractor or service provider:
  • Confirm whether licensing is required in your area for the work requested
  • Ask for proof of insurance and bonding so you’re covered in case of damage. Confirm your homeowner’s insurance requirements to see if you’re covered in the event something goes awry.
  • Request local referrals and see other work in person. Research other online review sites.
  • Get a written, itemized contract and sign off on scope changes throughout the project. Be wary if you’re asked to put down a large cash deposit before a contract is signed and you haven't vetted the pro.
  • Always go with your instincts. If something feels off, do not proceed.
